No Dig Gardens
  How?

In our Sowing the Seed projects, we teach the 'No Dig Garden' concept. Its aim is to stimulate the soil's biological community to do all the hard work for you. The benefit? Healthy, nutritious food. It's easy!

A quick guide to your first No Dig Garden

  • Start a compost heap

  • Remove weeds, with minimum soil disturbance

  • Sow seed in trays and transplant when ready, or lay seed in shallow drills and cover with a fine mix of compost and soil

  • In the autumn, cover soil with 3 to 5 cms of compost to feed and encourage the workforce in your soil

  • Sit back and wait. Watch what happens to your compost, does it stay there or disappear?

  • If your soil is alive with micro-organisms and soil animals, they will do what they have done for millions of years – eat the compost, unlock the nutrients and take it to the roots of your healthy, nutritious plants.
